    Optimizing Your C-Store Windows

The windows of your convenience store are a great place to advertise new products, sales, and more.  If you are using your window space wisely you have the opportunity to bring more customers inside from the street or your gas pumps.  However, when not done the right way, window advertising can actually be a detriment to your store traffic and possibly hurt your profits.  When considering how to use your c-store’s windows to your advantage, there are several factors and tips you should think about.

    Don’t Clutter Your Windows

One major mistake that many c-store owners make is putting way too much on their windows, facing the inside and the outside of the store.  Consumers can’t focus on any one advertisement if there are too many images and messages in one place.  Pare down your window display so that only the most valuable advertisements are being show and they are easily seen.

    Keep it Fresh

Try to switch out your window ads whenever you can so that your advertising is relevant and worth paying attention to.  Old and outdated advertising gives the impression that you don’t care about your store’s appearance and your customers’ experience.  If window decals and signs get damaged or begin to look worn, you should definitely take them down to keep your store looking clean.

    Empty Space is Good

While it may be tempting, try not to fill every bit of visible window space that you have.  The advertisements you do have will stand out even more against empty glass space and customers will be more likely to notice them.  Plus, allowing customers to seen the inside of your store from outside is a great way to help bring them in to make a purchase.

    Post Important Information

Advertisements and sales are not the only things you should be posting in your c-store windows.  Make sure you have all the most important notifications visible to your customers as well.  For example: “SNAP Accepted Here” signs, ATM signage, your health inspection rating, your store hours, etc.  These are all important items that could be the deciding factor in whether or not a customer decides to come in.

Don’t Be Afraid to Be Creative

The signage you get from vendors and product manufacturers is just the beginning when it comes to c-store window signage opportunities.  If you really want to attract more customer attention, consider doing something special with your c-store window space like a holiday theme or even a mural for the local sports team.  Customers like artwork and an attractive window decoration is a great way to impress potential shoppers.

If you aren’t already, you should definitely be taking advantage of the valuable space that your c-store windows offer.  While signage and decorations is always important, never forget to keep your windows clean.  It doesn’t matter how great of a sale you have going on, there are plenty of customers who won’t even bother to stop inside your store if it seems dirty or unkempt.  With clean windows and the tips we’ve provided, you have the opportunity to bring in customers who may not have otherwise considered making a purchase at your c-store.
