SNAP Update: Record High Spending

SNAP spending reached an all-time high of $113.8 billion in fiscal year 2021, according to the USDA. This is largely due to recent economic challenges in the last few years and the expansion of SNAP benefits during the pandemic.

SNAP accounts for approximately two-thirds of USDA spending on food and nutrition assistance, making it the largest domestic nutrition assistance program. Increased SNAP participation and spending could mean increased revenue for your business if you’re a SNAP retailer.
